Providence Grove High School junior Andrea Robbins added another strong finish to her 2009 resume when she tied for second in the state 3-A/2-A/1-A state golf championship at Longleaf Country Club.
It came after a summer that included a tie for second in the Big I State Tournament and a tie for third in the Precision Girls Championship.
“It has improved a lot since last year,” Robbins said when asked about the state of her game. “I’ve been working hard at it. I keep going to my coach (Robert Linville of Precision Golf) and I practice almost every day.”
Providence Grove, a second-year school, didn’t send a team to the states, but Robbins qualified as an individual by finishing as first runner-up to Western Alamance senior Lori Beth Adams in the regional tournament. It was her third straight appearance in the state finals – (35th as a freshman at Eastern Randolph) and (12th last year for Providence Grove). Her scores have improved by more than 10 shots per round since she began her prep career.
