Legitimate contender or not, Tiger Woods remains pro golf’s biggest attraction.
This weekend at Pinehurst, a Tiger miracle could make some gamblers rich.
Bets on the 48-year-old Woods (pictured practicing this week at No. 2) to win were getting 125-to-1 odds Wednesday afternoon, according to cbssports.com
And part of the fun of betting on Tiger is getting to watch him. Rest assured, Woods will received plenty of air time Thursday morning from USA Network during his 7:29 a.m. tee time with Will Zalatoris and Matthew Fitzpatrick.
Despite his well-known back and leg problems, Woods told reporters this week that he feels healthy enough to compete.
“I feel like I have the strength to be able to do it,” Woods said Tuesday. “It’s just a matter of doing it.”
Though his body isn’t 100%, Woods said he was confident he could deal with temperatures that could reach 100 and high humidity at Pinehurst No. 2.
“It’s like home,” Woods said. “Hot and humid is what we deal with every single day at home in Florida, so that’s nothing new. It’s just making sure that I keep hydrated and the mental tax that the heat will bring. It’s going to bring it to all of us, not just me.”
Woods owns 15 pro major championships, including U.S. Open victories in 2000, 2002 and 2008. In U.S. Opens at Pinehurst No. 2, Woods finished in a tie for third in 1999 and solo second in 2005. He did not play in 2014 due to injuries.
