Macy Pate of Winston-Salem advanced to the semifinals of the Women’s Western Amateur at Onwentsia Club in Lake Forest, Illinois, on Friday afternoon before dropping a 2-up decision to Elise Lee of Irvine, California.
Pate, a rising sophomore at Wake Forest, beat Alice Hodge 2-up in Friday morning’s quarterfinals, winning three of the last four holes, including Nos. 15 and 16 with birdies. in the quarterfinals, Lee beat Isabella Rawl of Clemson 2 and 1.
Lee, who has committed to play at Northwestern, will take on Texas player Farah O’Keefe, the stroke play medalist, in Saturday’s championship match. In collegiate play last fall, Pate beat O’Keefe in the deciding match of the Stephens Cup, giving Wake Forest the championship.
By reaching the semifinals in the Elite Series event, Pate continued a strong summer season that included a runner-up finish at the North and South Amateur at Pinehurst Resort.
