Wake Forest Women’s Golf Will Add Kevin Diaz To The Staff Next Season

Diaz will replace current assistant coach Robin Walton

Wake Forest women’s golf head coach Dianne Dailey has announced the hiring of Kevin Diaz, who will serve as assistant coach beginning next season.

Diaz, who is the husband of Demon Deacon great Laura Diaz, comes to Wake Forest with a strong golf background. He began his golf instruction as an assistant pro at Bloomington Country Club in Indiana. He then joined the Ron Philo School of Golf in 1998 as a staff assistant. Kevin took over as director of the Amelia Island facility in 2000 and served there for six years before joining Laura on tour as her caddy in 2006.

“We’re excited about having Kevin join the program,” said Wake Forest head coach Dianne Dailey. “He has a lot of teaching experience and he’s been a caddy on the LPGA Tour. He’s knowledgeable on the new technology out there and he’ll bring a lot of experience to the program. We’re looking forward to having him, Laura and their family back on campus.”

Diaz will be taking over for current assistant coach Robin Walton, who has accepted a job with a corporate golf group in Arizona, where she had lived for 20 years.

Walton is in her fourth season with the Demon Deacons. She’s been a part of five team titles, including back-to-back ACC Championships in 2009 and 2010. The Deacons have been to two NCAA Championships during Walton’s tenure and she’s helped guide four All-Americans.

“Robin brought so much to our program,” Dailey said. “She was creative with her practices and was very knowledgeable when it came to equipment and club fitting. She brought with her a wealth of experience that a young coach just doesn’t have. Her experience definitely helped us grow as a team and it was a big part of us winning back-to-back ACC titles. Robin’s going to be hard to replace.”
