A quintet of new golf courses opened in North Carolina this year and, for the first time in recent memory, all the new layouts are public.
The courses range in location from the mountains to the coast, starting with Sequoyah National Golf Club in Cherokee, Red Bridge Golf Club in Locust, Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh, Cutter Creek Golf Club in Snow Hill and Cape Fear National in Leland.
At some point in the future, three of the courses – Red Bridge, Cutter Creek and Cape Fear National – could become private. But for the time being, North Carolina golfers have the opportunity to play all five.
