U.S. Am Public Links qualifying set for Mill Creek, Hyland Courses

Sectional qualifying for the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship, set for July 12-17 at Bryan Park, will commence in June.

The event is open to players who have been bonafide public course players this year and have a handicap index not exceeding 4.4.

All the sectional events are 36 holes at stroke play. The players who survive the sectionals will then join players already exempt to make up a 156-player field at Bryan Park. After 36 holes of medal play, the low 64 advance to match play.

In North Carolina, there are sectional qualifiers at Hyland Golf Club in Southern Pines on June 21-22, and at Mill Creek Golf Club in Mebane on June 22-23.

There are 74 sites across the country. The size of the fields determines whether there are one, two or three qualifiers from each sectional.

The Public Links Championship is one of three USGA championships to be conducted in North Carolina this year.

The U.S. Girls’ Junior at The Country Club of North Carolina in Pinehurst follows July 19-24, and the 110th U.S. Women’s Amateur will be played at Charlotte Country Club on Aug. 9-15.
