WALLBURG – The subtraction of tournaments from the LPGA Tour schedule has kept Marcy Hart on the sidelines longer than she would have liked.
The addition of a family member further complicates matters for the veteran pro, who is expecting her first child in September.
“I’m 32 now. I said when I was 30 I would start thinking,” said Hart, who lives with husband Rob near Meadowlands Golf Club outside of Winston-Salem and plays out of High Point Country Club. “We kind of kept putting it on hold because of golf and we’re not getting any younger. I think the timing’s fine – I don’t know there’s ever a great time (to be pregnant) being a professional golfer. You might have to take some time off.”
The former Marcy Newton burst onto the national scene with a win at the 1995 U.S. Girls Junior Championship. The Ledford High School star went on to excel at the University of North Carolina, and after receiving her degree in May 2000, won that summer’s U.S. Women’s Amateur.
